3 Simple Items to Replace for a Greener Home

IMG_3564

What do these three things have in common?

No it’s not that they are all white! They are in fact all little ways that you can make your home even greener and healthier for yourself and your planet.

We all try and do our part to be responsible humans and love our earth. We recycle, conserve water, etc. but when you are wanting to improve your hormonal health, thinking about getting pregnant in the next few years, or are currently pregnant, you start noticing even the littlest of things you can change to go more natural. I slowly started revamping my home products over time and loved these little changes that are so easy to make.

Three things I have replaced to make my home a little greener and less toxic:

Cloth napkin 21. Paper Cloth Napkins

This replacement was inspired by my mother-in-love. I always loved going to her home for dinner and feeling so fancy using cloth napkins for every meal. She had found hers on etsy so I went there and bought some for myself! Then my mom added to my collection with even more beautiful napkins she had found at an estate sale. They are all very soft, unlike the cloth napkins you may find at regular stores or restaurants. My friends always comment when they come over for dinner that they love using them! Though others apologize for dirtying them because they’re so pretty. But it’s not a problem! I just collect them after dinner and throw them in my whites basket and when I go to wash my bath towels I toss the napkins in as well!

I first switched to more natural fragrance free dryer sheets, until I discovered wool dryer balls! Made with 100% real wool, they help soften, reduce drying time, static and wrinkles, and best of all you can add your own fragrance by putting drops of essential oils right on them! You simply leave the balls in the dryer load after load and they last for about 1000 loads! (I don’t really plan on keeping count though haha!)

IMG_35193. Plastic Mesh Produce Bags

I love shopping in the bulk section of my natural foods store. I get most of my grains and nuts there because a. you save money by not having to pay for the packaging and marketing and b. you don’t have to throw away or recycle the packaging. But it’s always a shame to still use the plastic baggies that come from the store of farmers market! Bump up the green power by bringing your own mesh produce bags! I keep them organized by stuffing a few into one baggie and dispersing them in a few of my reusable grocery bags that I keep in my car for the store and farmers market. Then when I get home I put my grains in mason jars and my fresh produce in glass containers for the fridge.

Here’s to your baby steps to more natural living!
