Yummy Hummus Recipe

final

I made this hummus recipe a few years ago and my husband was obsessed with it.

He brought it into work and they were obsessed with it too.

I decided to make homemade hummus because often times my husband and I will get stomach aches or headaches from store bought hummus. We’re not exactly sure why, but my hunch is that we are sensitive to too much garlic.

Even though this hummus recipe was a hit, I didn’t make it often because for some reason I felt overly determined to soak and cook the garbanzo beans myself, making it feel like it took forever to get my hummus! I’ve finally let up, and in order to have this goodness more often I am a-okay with using canned beans and you can be too.

Making hummus yourself is seriously so easy, plus it it tastes better and is better for you! It is always better than buying a store bought brand, which can be filled with GMOs, mysterious natural flavors, and preservatives.

It’s fun making your own hummus variations as well. My mom introduced me to Whole Foods’ lemon hummus and we are obsessed. It’s tangy and tastes amazing with green apples! But to my dismay, the Whole Foods in my town doesn’t make it! So I’ve set out to recreate it. See my lemon variation note at the bottom of the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 2 15-ounce can of garbanzo beans, drained
(or 1 1/3 cups drained garbanzo beans if you are soaking and boiling your own)
  • 10 tablespoons olive oil
  • juice of 2 lemons
  • 2 heaping tablespoons tahini
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Simply place all of the ingredients into a food processor or Vitamix and blend until smooth. It’s that easy!
  • Yields about 4 cups of hummus.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

Lemon variation: Double or triple the amount of lemons called for, and omit the water called for in recipe. You can double the original recipe and take some out plain, then add in extra lemon juice to the remaining to make a batch of each if desired.
